Rick McCoy
Master McCoy has been training in Jiu Jitsu since 1995. He started with Judo when he was in the third grade and has trained in several types of fighting styles. Master McCoy is currently based in Richmond, Virginia.
Master McCoy stated he does not have a favorite match in competition. He enjoys competing and the personal satisfaction when he wins. His background includes the following accomplishments:

- 10 years Wrestling
- 3x East Coast Sombo Champion
- 2x National Sombo Champion
- Pan American Sombo Champion
- Pan American Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Champion
- U.S Vale Tudo Middleweight Champion
- Excalibur Extreme Fighting Welterweight Champion
- BAMA Super-Fight Champion
- Competed in Danger Zone, IFA, Rage in the Cage-Hawaii, ISFA Shoot Fighting, Ring of Combat, Combat Extremo
Master McCoy would like to see Jiu Jitsu become more like wresting or judo in that it not be so elite and can get more people involved. He would like to see it become more affordable for everyone. A tournament can cost $80 per participant which is sometimes difficult for the average person. He hopes to make Jiu Jitsu more accessible to everyone.
Master McCoy likes what USA Jiu Jitsu is working to accomplish with the sport of Jiu Jitsu. He feels that too often there is a lot of self-interest in the sport and USA Jiu Jitsu is looking out for the sport itself rather than the individual’s self-interest or gain. He feels that as the sport grows, he will grow as well. Master McCoy feels that by working together, the gym owners can share and learn from each other.
